Safe Home, Safe Family (COVID-19 Appeal)
Manchester, England, United Kingdom
We believe that no woman who is pregnant or with a baby should live on the streets of Athens. This is our mission. Can you help us achieve it? We provide a home for as many women and their families as funds allow – a home when it is most needed. We focus on refugees who have little or no support and right now we have given 20 families with heavily pregnant women or new babies a roof over their heads and their own front door.
Hundreds of people make this happen by volunteering their skills and kindness, donating money and organising events to help us pay the bills. We call this the CRIBS family.
When you become a member of the CRIBS family, you have the power to change lives.
CRIBS provides support during pregnancy and beyond, with food, clothing, nappies and much more. These incredible women have been through so much and their children are just starting out in life. We help to give them a good start.
The refugee crisis in Greece is often forgotten but it is still happening. Now COVID-19 is causing further hardship.
Living in the middle of this crisis are pregnant women and those with newborn babies. Many of these women and their babies are living in utter squalor – in refugee camps, or sleeping in parks, churches or abandoned buildings. They can’t easily wash their hands and some are forced to eat leftovers from the markets or even out of bins. They have arrived in Athens – desperate but hopeful, from Syria, the Congo, Cameroon and Afghanistan. Having experienced and survived unimaginable trauma – violence, grief, torture and rape. They come to CRIBS begging for help, for their own front door and for safety. By becoming part of the CRIBS family you can help them. Together, we can keep them safe.
Throughout the world, COVID-19 has changed everything and our future funding has become extremely vulnerable. We need your help. We are already seeing a drop in funding and if we don’t do something urgently we are extremely concerned about how we are going to cover our ongoing basic costs. We all know that COVID-19 is not going away quickly and if we cannot pay the bills, then how can we keep our mums and babies safe from this or any other dangers? Daily, we are told, “Stay Safe, Stay Home”, but many refugees have no home and without a home how can you self-isolate? In a camp or in a squat, how can you self-distance?
We need your help to raise £10,750 to help cover the rent on our 14 flats for the next six months. This is the bare minimum that we need. Will you help by donating to us today? All amounts, large and small, are welcome. Your support means our mums and babies will have a home and will be safe. Thank you! Thank you from all of the CRIBS Team
